تعطي المسؤولية الاجتماعية للشركات قواعد ارشادية لأي شركة في العالم لكي تأخذ دوراً فعالاً في داخل المجتمع وذلك حينما تدير نشاطاتها بطريقة تراعي مبادئ الشفافية والانصاف وحينما تساهم في حماية البيئة ايضا. هكذا يمكننا ان نقول ان نطاق المسؤولية الاجتماعية للشركات هو: ان تقدم الشركة خدماتها وبضاعتها بطريقة مسؤولة، اي ان تأخذ دوراً إيجابياً في تحسين الأحوال الاقتصادية للمجتمع المحلي الذي تعمل فيه، وثالثاً ان تدير الشركة نشاطاتها بطريقة لا تكون لها آثاراً سلبية على البيئة.
